A convicted sex offender charged with murdering a California teenager lived near a preschool for at least 16 months before parole agents forced him to move, according to state corrections records released Wednesday.
A regional administrator let John Albert Gardner III continue living within 126 yards of the San Diego County preschool until his lease expired in 2006, a top corrections official told The Associated Press.
But no one noticed he was still living there until a year later.
The supervisor gave him some time to finish the lease out -Oscar Hidalgo

"It just feels hopeful to me," McAuley told The Greenville News afterward.
"I'm hopeful they are giving this serious consideration and that's what we want them to do."
Wakefield was one of two Greenville killers whose parole was considered Wednesday by the board.

The Michigan Department of Corrections is investigating whether a convicted embezzler who snagged a $9.1 million business tax credit from the state has violated parole.
RASCO CEO Richard A. Short shared the stage Tuesday with Gov. Jennifer Granholm as she introduced the leaders of companies awarded tax credits.
She said RASCO — short for Renewable and Sustainable Companies LLC — planned to invest $18.4 million to establish a new headquarters in Flint.

Paul Dean Walker, who has spent over twenty years in state prison on a Boone County murder charge has again been denied a chance for release.
Late last month, the West Virginia State Parole Board denied Walker's bid for supervised release in connection with the deaths of 68-year old Dorothy Daniels and 83-year old Faye Jarrell, which took place on October 29, 1989.
